What happened to Remy Gonzalez on “Cake Boss”? Buddy Valastro’s former brother-in-law went to trial and is going to jail for nine years for sexually assaulting a disabled 13-year-old girl.
Sentenced in New Jersey on May 23, 2012 Remigio “Remy” Gonzalez was married to Valastro’s sister, Lisa and appeared on TLC’s reality show as a cake decorator.
The judge who sentenced 34-year-old said that Gonzalez “preyed upon” a victim who suffers a disability and that his acts were “compulsive” and “repetitive.”
Gonzalez admitted on Wednesday that he was guilty of some of the illicit acts. He told the court, “I want to apologize to the victim … I truly am sorry for all the pain and all the embarrassment I caused.”
A resident of East Hanover, Gonzalez was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. Prosecutors state that former “Cake Boss” cake decorator Remy Gonzalez, an immigrant,will likely be deported to Mexico once he is released from prison.
Gonzelez must first serve 85 percent of the nine years he was sentenced to. It will be more than seven years, seven months before he becomes eligible for parole.
According to court documents, the sexual assaults happened between July 2009 and March 2010. Remy Gonzalez was arrested on August 17, 2010. He was sentenced on May 23, 2012.
Back in 2010, NJ.com reported that “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro’s sister Lisa was the one who turned Gonzalez in to police.
Once released, Gonzalez must register as a sex offender.
